The British Academy Film Awards were held in February 2018 and the big winners were announced. There were some slight surprises, but the best films won, and it was great to see some outstanding work being rewarded. The ceremony took place at the Royal Albert Hall and was hosted by Joanna Lumley.
The Best Film award went to Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, a drama following the story of a mother whose daughter has been murdered. It was directed by Martin McDonagh, and also won awards for Outstanding British Film and Original Screenplay.
Gary Oldman came away with an award for Leading Actor, for his role as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. The other big winner of the night was The Shape of Water, which won three awards, one of which was for Production Design. All three of these films were also highly successful at the Oscars, which were held at the beginning of March.
