The Emoji Movie isn’t’ performing particularly well. However, it has done fairly well in the box offices, taking a total of £1.78m for its UK debut. That hasn’t encouraged the critics though, who have been altogether rather scathing of this film. Despite an interesting and relevant concept, it seems The Emoji Movie is not going to catch on all that well.
The story line follows one particular emoji, Gene, as he goes missing and has lots of emoji adventures. He comes across lots of other emojis on his journeys that audiences will be able to relate to, like the ‘meh’ emojis (his parents) and princess emoji. The movie is the brainchild of director Tony Leondis and it has a strong cast voicing all of the characters, including T.J Miller, James Corden, Anna Faris, Maya Rudolph and Patrick Stewart. It is said to have come from Leondis’s love of Toy Story.
